According to Time, travelers like to balance their spending while traveling. For example, while they may eat at a five-star restaurant, they also like to enjoy free street art. This combination makes their budget stretch further.
The magazine put the cost of one week in Hoi An for two at $2,684. Tourists can wander around the UNESCO World Heritage Site and take in its history, such as the Japanese Covered Bridge, built in the 16th century and with no entry fee. Museums in the old town cost a negligible one or two dollars to enter. Visitors can also rent boats at reasonable prices and float along the Hoai River, which is especially popular at night when the old town sparkles. Pristine white sand beaches are just a few kilometers away. Hotel rates, meanwhile, are about $65 a night.

Earlier this year, the world’s largest travel site, Trip Advisor, also listed Hoi An among the world’s 15 most iconic attractions. It was described as an attractive destination for its tranquil, rustic setting, cuisine, and beautiful centuries-old architecture. In 2016, Hoi An was also named by Travel + Leisure magazine as one of the ten most wonderful cities in Asia.
Other places on Time’s list were Xi’an (China), Chiang Mai (Thailand), Siem Reap (Cambodia), Taipei (Taiwan), Kathmandu (Nepal), Bali (Indonesia), Chennai (India), Luang Prabang (Laos), and Penang (Malaysia).
